| History |
Hanya Tilane was joined to the Jaal symbiot at the age of 20, during her second year at Starfleet Academy. She served as a security and tactical officer aboard the USS Aubrey, and then as Assistant Chief of Security at Starbase 71. Was promoted to Lt JG and offered the position of Chief of Security at Pandora Station, 2392.
Was removed from the Aubrey after an incident involving a Ferengi raider. The Ferengi ship sent out a distress call and the Aubrey's Captain ordered shields down. Ensign Jaal suspected a trap and instead fired on the Ferengi ship. She turned out to be right, but was still found guilty of disobeying the Captain. She was allowed to keep her rank, but was transferred to Starbase 71.
Hanya is the sixth host for the Jaal symbiot. The five previous hosts were all men, none of who ever left the Trill home world, and all of whom lived to ripe old ages. They were:
Harmin Jaal, mathematician
Tumel Jaal, astronomer
Lynaar Jaal, actor/director
Yaanex Jaal, musician/composer
Peeglit Jaal, surgeon |

Profile |
The Jaal symbiot had always been joined to academics, and desired a completely different kind of host. Hanya Tilane is the niece of Academy instructor Dorvan Lar, and has wanted to be a Starfleet officer as long as she can remember. She performed well in the initiate's program and was readily chosen to be joined. Both she and Jaal thought they would be a good match, as she wanted to broaden her intellect and Jaal wanted to broaden its horizons.
It has not always worked out smoothly, however. Hanya actively seeks out new situations, but Jaal finds them unsettling. Jaal is also afraid of violence and personal injury, as it's never really experienced either. Hanya, on the other hand, has studied, and uses, several different types of weapons and martial arts.
When they disagree strongly, Hanya sometimes punishes Jaal by getting very, very drunk. The symbiot has an allergy to alcohol, and this makes it shut down.
Other than that, she is usually cheerful, yet quiet and thoughtful. She has a tendancy to trust her luck too much. She can be very impulsive. |
