Personal Log: Clare Bradley

I added a few tidbits given to be by Guido from the book Metamorphosis. I'm also updating the credits in the vessel database.. and changing the USS's to U.S.S.'s. I always used to use USS myself but Guido kept correcting me to U.S.S., so now I'm anal about it too. I'm feeling a little constrained by the current vessel database. I can't add the [noncan] tags, and I can't add photos. I have some nice screenshots of a few ships and Starbases I'd like to add... and probably will have more in the future. The code that groups like classes together is useful, but annoying when I'm trying to update.. instead of taking me to where I was, it takes me to the class page. Grr. Oh well, more clicking.

I just finished "Gemworld", Book One. I've gotten some good info on the Elaysians for the database, but most of the other inhabitants of Gemworld were given only a very cursory glance. One good thing about the book is that it explains how a low-gravity world can maintain it's atmosphere.. through forcefields. One bad thing is that a world made of crystals cannot provide food and water. The author tried to explain a way that food grew, but it seemed quite improbable to me. I think the stupid crap outweighs the good stuff, but I might as well read Book Two and get it all tied up.

I decided it was about time I used this. I'd like to dedicate this to my out-of-game work on the database and any related things that come up.

For my first entry, I'd like to point out the non-canon additions I made to Xenology on Monday (Caxtonians, Groxxin, Iffalian, Igrids, Taltic, and Valtusians). These were submitted to me back in September by Ben Versteegt from the DS9 book Heart of the Warrior by John Gregory Betancourt. I added the non-Xenology info from the book immediately (DNA analyzer and personal cloaker), but I held off on the races from the book because at that time I wasn't doing any Xenology updates. There's alot of information in the Xenology that I didn't properly reference when I added it originally, and I wasn't sure how to go about adding new, properly researched information without mixing it all up, or without removing all the bad info. I resolved the issue by creating a new section for the new information in some of the larger (Vulcans, for example) entries. Some of this information is not really new, but the references properly done. Anyway, with that situation temporarily resolved, I've added the non-canon races that Ben submitted back in September.
