A large, cave-dwelling carnivore native to Hanon IV in the Delta Quadrant. It is serpentine in shape and has several paddle-like appendages on either side of it's body, which it used to move. (VOY: Basics, Part II)

(|Hlai|)
Large flightless birds farmed for their meat native to Romulus. They are similar to the Terran ostrich, but they have scales. The very largest ones are also sometimes tamed for children to ride. This however, renders their meat unusable. The terms hlai'hwy, hlai'vna refer to "held" and "loose" hlai; domesticated and wild game birds. The plural form of this word is hlaiin. Romulan predatory animal, similar to the Terran weasel mustela frenata, but 4 feet long, excluding tail, and three feet tall at the shoulder. They are notorious for their vicious habits and insatiable appetites. The plural form of this work is hnoiyikar. (ST #35: The Romulan Way by Diane Duane and Peter Morwood)

George and Gracie.A large aquatic mammal, scientific name Megaptera novaeangliae, that lives in the oceans of Earth. It became extincet in the 21st century but two specimens were obtained from the 20th century by Kirk and his crew, who transplanted them into the 23rd century in an effort to repopulate the species. (ST IV: The Voyage Home)

A Reef triggerfish, also known by the scientific name Rhinecanthus rectangulus. It is found in tropical oceans on Earth. An image of this fish is used as an animation in schoolroom computers. (TNG: Rascals)
