(|IDF (Acronym for Inertial Damping Field)|)
A forcefield that is especially designed to compensate acceleration forces within a starship. Several IDF generators are distributed throughout a Federation starship.

(|Impulse capacitance cells|)
In order to create a short burst of impulse, B'lanna Torres tried releasing power from the impulse capacitance cells straight into the driver coils. (VOY: Elogium)

(|Impulse control system|)
The impulse control system controls the impulse drive on Constellation-Class starships. (TOS: The Doomsday Machine)

(|Impulse drive|)
The impulse control system controls the impulse drive on Constellation-Class starships. After the planet killer damaged the U.S.S. Constellation on Stardate 4202.1, the impulse drive was working, but its control circuits were fused and the warp drive was inoperable, but it's controls were functional. Scotty cross-connected the warp control circuits to the impulse drive, so that they could use the impulse drive, however, it made this ship impossible for one man to handle. (TOS: The Doomsday Machine)

Propulsion system for sublight speeds, often referred to as impulse drive. In Federation starships, the impulse drive usually consists of a fusion reactor, an accelerator, a driver coil assembly and an exhaust director. The fusion reaction generates a highly excited plasma. This plasma can be employed for propulsion, or can be diverted through the EPS so as to supply other systems. The accelerated plasma is passed through the driver coils, thereby a subspace field is generated that improves the propulsive effect.

(|Impulse engines|)
A fusion explosion of 97.835 megatons will result if a starship impulse engine is overloaded. (TOS: The Doomsday Machine) An A.I.D. cleanup on the impulse engines required the hatch on the radioactive disposal vent to be open. (TOS: Obession)

(|Impulse manifolds|)
The impulse manifolds are part of the impulse engines. (ENT: E2)

(|Impulse pre-start sequence|)
When a ship initiates the impulse pre-start sequence, the magnetic plasma guides will heat up. Then aft plasma vent is filled with superheated plasma. (DS9: One Little Ship)

(|Impulse speed|)
Sublight speed which is achieved with the impulse drive, usually measured in fractions of c.

(|Inertial damping fields|)
Upon returning from the Gamma Quadrant with Vash, the inertial damping fields were barely operational in the U.S.S. Ganges. (DS9: Q-Less)

(|Injector assembly|)
The injector assembly is part of the engines in a warp capable ship. Haradin traders gave propulsion schematics to Lorian's Enterprise that they wanted to use to modify Archer's Enterprise's injector assembly and increase speed to 6.9 for brief intervals. There was a 22% chance Enterprise would be destroyed in the process. (ENT: E2)

(|Intake manifolds|)
Part of the warp drive on NX-Class vessels. Trip compressed the plasma stream to decrease warp field fluctuations in order to maintain warp 5.0 for long periods, but something got into the intake manifolds, causing a primary injector flare. (ENT: Similitude)

(|Intensity grid|)
Miles O'Brien asked Jadzia Dax if she checked if the intensity grid was malfunctioning when a high-pitched noise was coming from the science lab. (DS9: Babel)

(|Interfactor|)
The Interfactor was a device in engineering on Constitution-class vessels. (TOS: The Changeling)

(|Intermix chamber|)
After the Enterprise NX-01 was sabotaged by Klingon Augments, there was a malfunction in this chamber. Plasma pressure was rising. The pressure in this chamber cab be relieved by increasing speed. (ENT: Affliction)

(|Intermix formula|)
Formula used to cold start the engines. It had never been tested before used by the U.S.S. Enterprise. It's a theoretical relationship between time and antimatter. When the U.S.S Enterprise attempted it, it created an implosion in the engines, causing engine power and velocity to go off the scale, creating a time warp. The Enterprise went 71 hours back in time. (TOS: The Naked Time)

(|Intermix pressure|)
Measurement of the intermix pressure on a starship's warp engines. (ENT: Divergence)

(|Internal fuel cells|)
The internal fuel cells on Captain Jaheel's ship began collapsing when he tried to forcibly leave Deep Space Nine. If they collapsed while Jaheel's ship, was still docked it would have exploded, taking half of the docking ring with it. (DS9: Babel)

(|Interphase generator|)
A cloaking device that manipulates the molecular structure of matter in a way that it is transferred to a parallel space. Matter cloaked with an interphase generator is not only invisible to conventional natural and artificial sensors, it is also able to penetrate normal matter.

(|Interspatial manifold|)
Mechanism on the surface of the Spheres in the Expanse. It is used to connect the spheres. (ENT: Countdown)

(|Intruder control circuit|)
The intruder control circuit was used on the U.S.S. Enterprise to disable intruders. Khan disabled the intruder control circuit prior to his attempt to take over the U.S.S Enterprise on Stardate 3142.8. (TOS: Space Seed)

(|Inverse phasing|)
Spock suggested inverse phasing when Scotty was repairing the transporter. (TOS: The Doomsday Machine)

(|Isolinear chip|)
Nanotechnical device that serves for data and software storage in 24th Federation computer systems. Optical signal processing is employed in isolinear chips, and FTL signal transfer is enabled when installed in a starship's computer core. Isolinear chips also serve as portable storage devices.

58966/Delta, an isolinear chip, is one of two dozen 66/Delta's in the encryption circuits alone. At the base of one of those 66/Delta's is a 4-way interlink shunt. (DS9: One Little Ship)

(|Isomagnetic collector|)
Device that the Enterprise NX-01 picked up from the Ikaarans in an alternate timeline. (ENT: E2)

Contributed by: Clare Bradley

(|Isoton|)
Unit for the measurement of the explosive force of a photon torpedo or quantum torpedo.

(|Isotopic analysis|)
Degra wanted Gralik to show him the results of an isotopic analysis of the kemocite. (ENT: The Shipment)
