(|What are the storylines on the ships? Can I make up my own?|)
The Captain of the ship creates the main storylines, sometimes with input from certain players, other times, not. Players will often not find out about the plot until it happens, perhaps by way of an NRPG (Non-Role Playing Game) mail.

Any player can start up sub-plots, create twists within the main plot or come up with an entirely new twist themselves, as long as it does not interfere with the main and other plots. If you are not sure if what you have in mind will interfere with anything the CO has planned, contact the CO and ask for permission. Usually he/she can make your ideas even better!!

(|How often do I need to write a post?|)
We have a minimum rule of once a week. If you are unable to fulfill that minimum (due to holidays, tests at school, etc.) inform your Captain and/or First Officer about this, and tell them how long you'll be "out of the running".

If you simply do not post without giving a reason, after two weeks the CO will send you a warning. You then have a week to respond before your position will be declared "vacant" and your character will be moved to a "suspended" status. You can be demoted if this happens more than once.

This provides for a healthy environment in which people post with their characters, and create as little a "lag" as possible with non-posting members.

If a reply is needed from your character, you should reply as soon as possible, even if you already posted the minimum. If you don't have anything to reply to, and don't know anything to posts about, ask your CO or FO (or any other character)

If you are on the academy, you should just post as often as possible, so you can graduate faster (ony if the quality of your posts is also okay). Also don't post too much, your instructors are only human ;)

(|HELP !!!! My mail is being returned!!|)
Help!! What did I do wrong? Why are you returning my mail saying:

The message's content type was not explicitly allowed !?!

This most probably means that your message was not send in Plain Text. ST Frontier Fleet tries to ensure readability for all it's members and therefore enforces messages to be plain text. Additionally Plain Text emails are at least 3 times as small (or more) and can never pose any security risk.

Unfortunately this also means that you cannot send attachments over our mailinglists, but then again, that is usually not needed.

For more information see this page on our website. It will also tell you how to configure your email client correctly.

(|Why did you alter my email? (Outdated)|)
The mailinglists of StarTrek Frontier Fleet have the option to add a header and/or footer to your emails once our lists spreads them to the rest of your crew members. However, I am assuming that you are not asking the question because of this reason.

If you see the following in your message:

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]

Then it means that your message was not send in Plain Text. ST Frontier Fleet tries to ensure readability for all it's users and therefore enforces messages to be plain text. Additionally Plain Text emails are at least 3 times as small (or more) and can never pose any security risk.

Unfortunately this also means that you cannot send attachments over our mailinglists, but then again, that is usually not needed.

For more information see this page on our website.

Note: Since an update of our mailinglist manager this FAQ entry is outdated, it'll be removed in the near future; the above FAQ entry will be replacing this one.

(|Can I use copy and paste when replying to a post?|)
For small parts, and spoken text: yes.

Copying large parts should be avoided, and always be careful when doing this:
  • Thoughts of other characters, and anything not from your character's perspective should be removed or changed.
  • Don't just copy headers. Make sure they are correct, and change the time to indicate time moved forward.
  • Always check what you are copying and pasting!
Don't copy large parts and only add one line to it, not just the number of posts counts, also the quality, and it can be annoying if players have to read the same posts again and again if only small bits are added.

(|Why shouldn't I use the Reply button to reply to a post?|)
Actually, you can use the Reply button in your email client, but only if you make sure you change the subject of your post (no "Re: Other character's name") and also remove all "> " which were added to quote the original email.

Also read the question about Copy/paste about using (parts of) text posted by others.
