(|Do I need any prior writing experience before I join?|)
Yes, but you don't have to be the next Hemingway. You do need to have a grasp of grammar. If you are a not a native English speaker, we're more lenient, but you have to be able to write clearly otherwise noone will understand your posts. Read our Posting Guide for more information on what is expected.

You should know how and when to use the Shift key. CAPSLOCK is not needed. You should also know how to spell words like 'to' and 'be'. It's "To be or not to be" and not "2 B or not 2 B" ;-)

(|Can I play a new, unique race I made up myself?|)
The general answer to this question is 'No'. This is not because we don't want unique races but because we want to have 'normal' races.

In exceptional circumstances you can play a unique race. When:
- The race has an extensive and clear description
- The race shouldn't be much more advanced than the established UFP races.
- The race is not some kind of superpower race (like the Q)
- If the race is telepathic (like the Betazoids), the players has to take care of some restrictions (as mind reading is not directly allowed).

However, this still does not mean the race will be allowed, the final decision will be given to the ST Frontier Fleet Command Teams and Council, who will study the race description.

(|Are there any canon characters in the game?|)
No. Everyone must play an original character, and that character may not be a relative of any canon characters, so you can't play Picard, or Kirk's granddaughter.

(|What do I need to do before I join?|)

  1. have a VALID email address. The game is played by email only, so this is quite important!
  2. read our Game Rules.
  3. read our Posting Guide.
  4. had a look at the Sample Bio (or some of these other bios), so you know what a character's biography needs to look like.
  5. have a sample post. See the Join page for more information about what is expected.

(|Does Star Terk Frontier Fleet have a minimum age?|)
Yes, currently the minimum age to join is 14. If you really want to join, you can always wait till you turn 14.

(|The Join form aborts with an error, claiming I am already a member??|)
This answers only applies to people who are not (yet) a member. Members should never need to use the Join form :)

This means your email address is already in our database, so either your previous signup has been approved or still needs to be reviewed.
If you submitted the joinform a few days earlier it still may need to be reviewed; if you think it takes too long, please be patient. If it really takes a very long time before you hear anything, try contacting the Academy Commandant or the Council.

If you were a member before, and want to return, your player account may still exist. In that case you should contact the Council.

(|What happens after I fill in the Join form?|)
The data you entered will be stored in a database, and a copy will be sent back to yourself and to the Academy Commandant.

He/she will review the signup (quality of the biography, quality of the sample post, etc) and if you did not enter complete nonsense, your signup will be approved, so a member account is created for you, including the biography from the Join form.

Then the AcadCM will contact you, and you will be assigned to an instructor, who will teach you how to post.
when this instructor thinks you are ready to post withmore than one other player, you will be assigned to a traininglist, with several other cadets and a few instructors.

When that training is over, the AcadCM will contact the Council, and the Council will assign you to a dutystation, taking into account your preferences and the current vacancies in the fleet.

(|I have a high rank in another game. Do I still have to start as cadet?|)
Yes. Our academy personnel can't check all previous RPG's you belong(ed) to, and other games may have other rules about promotions. All promotions in our game have to be by our rules.
This means that all new members to our game will start as cadet on the academy, and then graduate to ensign and start playing aboard one of ST: Frontier Fleet's dutystations.

(|I was a member before, can I get my old rank back when I return?|)
That depends on several circumstances including, but not limited to:
- In which circumstances did you leave;
- What was your rank at the time of leaving;
- How has your posting (quantity and quality) been during the time you were a member;

(|I run a Startrek sim/pbem. Can my ship be a part of your fleet?|)
The answer to this question is very short: No.
There are a few reason for this answer:

1. ST: Frontier Fleet is not one of those fleets where each ship is a separate game. Only individual players can join ST: Frontier Fleet.

2. This question is asked a lot by people who just started their game, and most of the time the entire crew consists of only one player, the captain. Nobody can become a CO of a ship/base in ST: Frontier Fleet instantly, only players who have been in ST: Frontier Fleet for quite some time, and who have proven to be good players, are allowed to command a dutystation in our game.
In other words, everyone who is not a member of our game has to start at our academy as a cadet, graduate to ensign, and move up through the ranks by posting, of course depending on quantity and quality.

3. If we would allow ships to join our game, we would have a lot of ships with a large number of vacancies. The game is more fun if there are less ships and more people per ship so posting will not stop when a few people are unable to post.
