JAG Officer (JAG):
The JAG officer is a practicing lawyer. They deal with all aspects of law, whether between crewmen, or with an alien government. For more information, see the JAG section of the starfleet page. The JAG is not part of any department, and functions outside the vessel's command structure. They take orders from the JAG office in starfleet command.
Intelligence Operative (IO/SFIO):
The Intelligence Operative is part of Starfleet's Intelligence Division. They are rarely assigned to a vessel, as Starfleet Intelligence is a separate branch of Starfleet. However, an IO can be sent to a vessel for various reasons. If sent upon request of the Captain, they are under his/her command same as any other officer. If sent to investigate on behalf of Starfleet Command, they act outside of the vessel's command structure.
Diplomat or Diplomatic Aide:
Many Alien Diplomats come aboard Federation vessels. | | |
