(|Acute subcellular degradation|)
Dr. Zimmerman once suffered from this condition. The initial symptoms include fatigue, nausea, and joint inflammation. The cure is a cellular regeneration procedure that uses Borg nanoprobes, and was devised by Voyager's EMH. (VOY: Life Line)

(|Albright-Saltzman syndrome|)
A rare neurological condition that Humans haven't had since the 22nd century. Symptoms include dizziness and double vision. (VOY: Relativity)

(|Alitosis Crymenium|)
This rare degenerative neuromuscular disease was rediscovered by the crew of the USS Calhoun after it was thought to be virtually extinct. The disease attacks the nervous system and neural pathways, usually killing the victim within 48 hours from infection.

Alitosis Crymenium is very contagious, being transferrable through contact, moisture, bodily fluids, and more. It has recently been discovered that the virus can embed itself in solid objects and remain dormant for a long period of time.

The virus also has various strands, with each ranging in symptoms. One strand may cause immediate unconsciousness while others may drag on the illness. One may be very contagious, while the others are not so contagious. There are four known strands.

Just recently, however, under the leadership of Dr. Drago Klunn, on Laesahrii VII, a vaccine has been developed, which may save lives of countless millions. Research is still continuing.

(|Anchilles Fever|)
This illness erupted on Styris IV in 2364. The source for the rare vaccine is the planet Ligon II. The vaccine becomes unstable when attempting to replicate it. (TNG: Code of Honor)

(|Aphasia|)
A perceptual dysfunction in which the brain incorrectly processes aural and visual stimuli. Normally, aphasia is caused through cranial trauma, such as a stroke or a severe blow to the head, and spontaneous development is virtually impossible. Actual thinking isn't effected, but the victim is incapable of expressing himself or understanding others. There is no medical cure for aphasia. (DS9: Babel)

(|Aphasia Virus|)
The Aphasia Virus. The aphasia virus was created by Bajoran scientist Dekon Elig for use against the Cardassians. The virus was dispersed on Deep Space Nine by a device placed in food replicators.

Once contracted the virus would enter the temporal lobes and disrupt normal communication processes by causing dysfunction of certain brain centers. It imposes itself in the synaptic pathways and then randomly reroutes them. The virus merely mimics the symptoms of aphasia. The infected would be unable to communicate coherently or understand others. In the later stages the virus caused high fever and attacked the autonomic nervous system causing coma then death. Dr Bashir used 30 CCs of corophizine used to avoid secondary infection. If not treated, the virus will be fatal. It has an adaptive synaptic inhibitor. The virus mutated to an airborne variety once a significant number of people were infected. 60% became infected. (DS9: Babel)

(|Atherosclerosis|)
Hardening of the arteries, accompanied by the deposit of fat in the inner arterial walls, found in humanoids. (DS9: Homefront)
